Dear Prospective Radiography Student,
I appreciate your interest in the RCCC Radiography program. Effective January 2006, admission to RCCC’s Radiography program is now determined by a competitive admissions process. Students who meet admission criteria become HOBET eligible and may compete for slots in the program (see below)The first step would be to complete an application and send transcripts to see which prior credits transfer here. The director of admissions, Gail Cummins is the person who makes the transfer of credit determinations. The specific admission criteria are spelled out in the RCCC catalog which is online at www.rowancabarrus.edu. In a nutshell, you must 1)submit an application indicating Radiography as your program of study, and arrange for placement testing as needed through Student Services 2)sign a statement indicating that you understand you must eventually submit to a criminal history report and drug screening (you sign this at the Radiography information session) 3)submit evidence of high school graduation or GED (transcripts), 4)supply evidence of high school or college level chemistry or physics, algebra, basic computer class, and biology with a minimum “C” average and within 5 years of January 1 of admission year. *Specific math, biology, chemistry and computer courses that will apply are listed in the RCCC catalog and in the attached RAD advising worksheet. And, 5) attend a Radiography Information Session; there is one offered each semester. The remaining 2008 Radiography Information Session will be held on the following date: Friday Sep 12. The session will be from 1:00 – 3:00pm in the Teaching Auditorium on North Campus in Salisbury. Successful completion of the admission criteria makes you eligible to take the Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET), which is administered in student services. HOBET study guides are available in both RCCC bookstores, or via amazon.com. More details regarding HOBET testing and your preparations will be offered at the Radiography Information Session. You will receive information from student services regarding the scheduling of this exam which is by invitation only. Once you are admitted for a Fall RAD class, then you must obtain health screening, have a current CPR certificate, and submit to the criminal history background check and drug screening. There are links for online application. The individuals who handle admissions for allied health programs at RCCC are Carol Proctor, Allied Health Coordinator in Student Services and Gail Cummins, Director of Admissions. We currently accept 24 students every fall, and have already seated the class of 2008. The only way to get your name on the HOBET eligibility list is to complete all admission criteria, regardless of the status of co-requisites or pre-requisites for the RAD program and General education requirements. All Radiography programs in this area are experiencing a great deal of interest. I would suggest you check other programs in the area as well to maximize your options for earlier admission.
