Learn How Your Community Can Best Serve Displaced Workers

What is the Re-employment Bridge Institute?

The Re-employment Bridge Institute (RBI) is a teaching/learning initiative created by Rowan-Cabarrus Community College (RCCC) through a grant from the N.C. Department of Commerce.

Through a series of workshops and on-line programs, the RBI will share best practices in responding to the multiple needs of displaced workers – the unemployed and under-employed. The RBI seeks to share ideas and help local institutions and agencies become catalysts for economic recovery.

Who Should Attend an RBI Workshop?

RBI workshops are open to anyone interested in workforce development best practices. The RBI focuses on establishing productive community partnerships, so leaders and staff members from community colleges, ESCs and JobLink Centers, workforce development boards, and public schools are encouraged to participate. Organizations are invited to enroll groups of participants, and multiple representatives from the same county or city are welcome.

In order to make RBI attendance as convenient as possible, we offer both an "in-person" and online versions of the same material.  See below pertinent information about both formats.

Reasons to Attend an RBI Workshop

In addition to learning best practices for helping displaced workers and the opportunity to share your experiences with other professionals from across North Carolina and the world, consider these incentives.

  • An RBI workshop is affordable. All workshop fees, plus two meals are provided by the RBI grant. Participants simply cover their travel and lodging expenses.
  • RBI workshops will draw from the lessons learned by RCCC, whose work with displaced workers earned the college a U.S. Department of Labor “Best Workforce Development Program” award.
  • There are multiple workshop dates. RBI workshops will take place January through September 2010.
  • The RBI focuses on integration and sustainability. Most of the services discussed can be provided free-of-charge and be integrated into the operations of community colleges and employment agencies.
  • The need is now. Displaced workers from all employment sectors are a fact of life. Your community can help meet their needs and sow the seeds of economic recovery in the process.
